Three children and two adults were killed as a small plane fell on to a vacation house in Oregon on Monday. The three children were inside the home and the two adults were on board the plane.
The vacation town of Gearhart has a population of over 1,000 people, but this time of the year only 500 living in the town. At least 40% of the houses are vacation rentals or second homes.
The authorities didn’t know the names of the children and the bodies of the two adults in the airplane still weren’t recovered. Still, one of the children and a adult on board the plane were hospitalized with injuries.
The accident happened somewhere between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., as Rebecca Herren, a tourist magazine editor who lives near the crash scene, said to have heard the plane crashing. 20 seconds after an explosion following the crash destroyed the home next door. Authorities say that the house was vacant.
Officials at the scene said that the plane first hit a tree because of foggy weather conditions. The house that the plane hit after, a four-bedroom rental home had six people inside. Two children and a mother were taken to Portland to treat their burns.
Two other people in the family had gone out for a walk before the crash happened and they were still wounded. The plane was a four-seat Cessna and was rented from Aviation Adventures by the pilot.
Seaside is beside the...uhh..SEA? This is a picture of an airplane in the desert.
