Watch Out for Mosquitoes! Warning Isn’t Over
Decline in West Nile infections is over and the KPCC wants to know what can happen if a healthy person contracts the illness. Jack Raney of Upland contacted the disease and he was in a coma for weeks after the illness developed.

The tragedy of getting the disease by only a bite of a mosquito has frightened a lot of people. There is also a blog about people that suffered the disease and their experiences, entitled West Nile Survivors Stories.

Officials say that the neglected pools were the places where you could have easily contacted the illness as dirty waters are an excellent environment for insects. The first West Nile virus appeared in a home in Scotts Valley.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have discovered a bird that was infected with the virus and could spread it to other people. The infected bird was tested by county technicians on July 29.

This year, no human case of the West Nile virus disease has been detected, but officials warn that the virus might develop any moment in any man who lives in the county. People should take precautions and be careful about exposing so much.

West Nile virus is transmitted through the bite of an ordinary mosquito, which takes the virus by feeding on an infected bird. The West Nile virus transmitted by insects especially causes fever and body aches in 20% of those infected.

The virus may also cause serious illness and life-threatening in 1 in 150 people. Rama Khalsa, director of the county’s Health Services Agency said that “it is really important to pay attention to mosquitoes.”

West Nile was it ever gone?
By Jack Raney, (2008-08-24 02:22)
In my world west nile has never left, it plays it's hellish game everyday. I know for most people it's hard to understand how something as a pesky mosquito could devastate one person, how it could undermine what took 45 years to master (the building of me). It was 4 years ago that this happened to me and my family, even though we try to put it behind us, there is a constant reminder of what happened.

My family and I have spent the last 4 years of our lives trying to get a message out about the virus and it's tragic affects. I now there are more who have suffered and would like them to add a face to the virus, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

What you need to know about west nile,,, west nile doesn't discriminate. It knows no boundaries, race, religion, rich or poor west nile affects us all. We will never get the virus out of our society, but we can lessen the impact it has by being better stewards of our communities.
