The Boston Celtics made a major move on Tuesday in their attempt put the franchise on its track to glory by acquiring 10-times All-Star Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Garnett, the 2004 league MVP, also thinks this move it’s a decisive one and that, after spending his first 12 years in the league with the Timberwolves, his chances of wining his first NBA title have increased.
"This is probably my best opportunity of winning a (championship) ring," Garnett said in the press conference.
As a part of the Boston-Minnesota agreement, forwards Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, center Theo Ratliff, guard Sebastian Telfair and two first-round draft picks will be sent to the Timberwolves.
The 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m), 253 lb (115 kg) power forward is regarded as one of the best all around players in the game today. His accomplishments include having been voted Most Valuable Player of the 2003-04 NBA season, being named to ten All-Star teams, and being named to seven All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams
The 31-year-old Garnett is one of only five players in NBA history to overreach the unbelievable milestone of 19,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists.
According to the rumors surrounding the trade, Garnett did not want to play for the Celtics, but that was before they traded for shooting guard Ray Allen on draft day. For the next season the Celtics’ starting lineup will feature three of the National Basketball Association's top 14 scorers from last season - Garnett, the swingman Paul Pierce and guard Ray Allen.
