Three Chicago
children were missing after their mother was found dead around noon on Monday with
a plastic bag over her head in her home in the Humboldt Park Neighborhood.
Chicago
police issued an Amber Alert this afternoon. The three missing siblings are Oscar
Casanova, 6; Karla Casanova, 7; and Fernando Casanova, 11. Oscar was described
as a white Hispanic child, 4 feet tall, 60 pounds, with dark brown hair and
brown eyes, his sister, Karla, is 4-foot-1, weights 75 pound and Fernando
Casanova is 5 feet tall and weights 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Police said they were abducted last Friday and the main suspect
is the woman’s boyfriend or husband, a thirty-two-year-old man, Benito O. Casanova,
the father of two of the children. According to the police, the man is 6-foot-1
and 230 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes and he drives a 2002 silver or
gray Dodge Dakota, with an Illinois
license plate number 86196HB.
He allegedly picked up the children after classes around
2:30 p.m. Friday from Yates Elementary School, 1893 N.
Richmond. No one saw the kids since then.
Sophia Garcia’s body was discovered in her home in the 1700 block
of North Harding Avenue.
Some family members called 911 after they had not seen Garcia for several days,
said News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor. He added that her death is being
treated as a murder, but police officers are still investigating the
circumstances of the homicide.
