T-Pain Grabs Five Nominations at BET Hip-Hop Awards

Apparently, this was an extraordinary year for young singer T-Pain,whose real name is Faheem Najm. His collaboration with other artists got him five nominations at the Black Entertainment TV Hip-Hop Awards. The 22-year-old singer is the one who got the most nominations in this ceremony, which will take place in Los Angeles on 24 June.

He got three nominations in the best collaboration category for his features in Chris Brown’s “Kiss, Kiss,” Flo Rida’s “Low,” also known from the movie “Step Up 2: The Streets,” and in Kanye West’s “Good Life.” The other two nominations include the viewers choice prize for his song with Chris Brown and the video of the year for “Good Life,” which also brought the artist a Grammy Award. Further on, other artists who are up for different prizes are Kanye West and Keyshia Cole with three nominations each and Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Flo Rida with two nominations each.

BET executive vice president Stephen Hill said according to BBC News that "T-Pain is everywhere. He's got five nominations, none of them for his own work. He's had a great year; he's introduced a new element.” The artist, who is a singer and a songwriter, has been known for using the auto-tune effect. In 2007, T-Pain was nominated in the Favorite Male Artist category at the American Music Awards.

The BET ceremony will also bring a lifetime achievement prize to the 62-year-old US soul singer, Al Green. He started to sing at the age of nine in a group of four called Greene Brothers. In 1971 his single “Let’s Stay Together” reached Number 1 in Billboard US Top 40 Pop Singles and in 2004, Albert Greene, was inducted into the Gospel Music Association’s Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

The Black Entertainment TV Awards is an yearly celebration of African-American and other minorities’ performances in music, acting, sports and other entertainment fields.
