Following the very successful launches in Japan and Europe, Wii Fit is finally ready to hit U.S. stores everywhere. U.S. residents will be able to purchase the long-waited video game starting Monday for the price of $89,99. Wii Fit is unlike anything out there as it can respond to the player’s weight and movement; it has special sensors that follow the player’s side-to-side and front-to-back movements in order to correlate the dynamics of the player's avatar. Activities that can be performed on Wii, while instructed by one of the two virtual trainers, include balance games, yoga, aerobics, strength training, and muscle-toning exercises. The package includes the Wii Balance Board and Wii Fit software. Wii Fit uses the Body Mass Index (BMI) in order to monitor the player’s daily progress toward a healthier lifestyle. The BMI is in fact a standard measure of body fat approved by the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health. Although it has been quite recently released (December 2007), Wii Fit has managed to sell no less than 1.76 million copies in Japan and is already considered the best-selling game of the year. At the end of April, it became the sixth fastest selling game of all time in the UK. Wii Fit reportedly recorded no less than £16.3 million ($32.4 million) in revenues, coming in third in the charts right after Halo 3, which recorded £16.9 million ($33.6 million) and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which had revenues of £24.2 million ($48.2 million). A similar evolution is expected in the U.S. as well.
