WD’s My Book Mirror Edition Out Now

On Wednesday, Western Digital (WD) released its new dual-drive storage system, perfect for ensuring the protection of data belonging to small-businesses or of personal media collections.

What My Book Mirror Edition does, is it uses one of the drives for storing the data, while on the other drive, another copy of the information is sent. The two drives are replaceable and no tools are needed for performing the operation. They feature WD’s GreenPower technology, which brings a power efficiency improvement of no less than 33 percent, when comparing My Book Mirror to other dual-drive devices.

Jim Welsh, VP and general manager of the consumer electronics group at WD, said that "personal and business content are extremely valuable - both emotionally and financially;" WD’s new product guarantees that any type of data customers may consider to be important will undoubtedly be safe, thus giving them one less thing to worry about.

As far as capacities go, users can either get the one-terabyte edition or the two-terabyte one.

My Book Mirror Edition can be found at retailers across the country and on the company’s online store as well. WD’s suggested a retail price of $290 for the smaller version and a $550 price for the two-terabyte model.

Last month, the company introduced an Apple Mac 320-GB portable storage device, called My Passport Studio. Packing FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 interfaces, the device was made available for $220.
