Former “Dawson’s Creek” star Katie Holmes will return on TV
to perform a guest role on “Eli Stone” this fall.
Holmes’ appearance in ABC’s drama about a lawyer (Jonny Lee
Miller) with prophetic powers was the idea of Greg Berlanti, who was one of the
producers on “Dawson’s Creek” and also the co-creator and executive producer of
“Eli Stone.”
During a discussion about how to extend the show’s audience
in its second year, Berlanti thought of Katie Holmes and told the other
producers he would try to approach her.
In a meeting of the Television Critics Association, Berlanti
said he was very excited about the encounter with the actress.
“I went and I begged her and she said, `I'd love to,'” he
said.
He described Holmes as “an incredible actress and a good
friend.”
The episode featuring Katie Holmes will be the second of the
season and will air Oct.21.
Eli producer Marc Guggenheim told E!
Online that Holmes will not appear in only one or two scenes, but “in a
significant portion of the scenes.” He also said Holmes will be singing and
dancing, but refused to disclose more details about the subject, as “we do want
to keep some of that a secret.”
Jonny Lee Miller, who plays the role of Eli, said that
Holmes was “extremely hardworking and a really, really nice person to have
around the set.”
Greg Berlanti also said that pop star George Michael, who
performed in the series’ debut episode, might return on the show, possibly for
a Christmas episode in December. As for Eli, Berlanti said that in the season
premiere, “we’ll find out definitively whether he is a prophet.”
Katie Holmes is currently preparing for her Broadway debut
Sept.18, in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.”
