It seems that rock band AC/DC teamed up exclusively with
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to sell their new album, which is expected to be released
in the fall, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Reuters reports.
Veteran acts The Eagles and Garth Brooks
have also released exclusives with the retail giant. Most recently, Journey released
its triple-disc album “Revelation” last Tuesday with Wal-Mart.
The Eagles’ Wal-Mart exclusive, their album “Long Road Out
of Eden,” sold 3 million copies since its debut in late October of last year.
The new AC/DC release will be the band's first collection of
new material since they released “Stiff Upper Lip” in 2000. A tour is also expected
to follow its release.
The album does not have a title yet.
AC/DC will record the album in Vancouver with producer Brendan O’Brien and
audio engineer Mike Fraser, the same source reports.
Even though the band are considered pioneers of hard rock
and heavy metal, its members always classified their music as “rock ‘n’ roll.”
AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in
March 2003. During the ceremony the band performed “Highway to Hell” and “You
Shook Me All Night Long”, with guest vocals provided by host Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
Tyler
depicted the band’s power chords as “the thunder from down under that gives you
the second-most-powerful surge that can flow through your body.”
In 2005, the Recording Industry Association of America
upgraded the band’s U.S.
sales figures from 63 million to 69 million, making AC/DC the
fifth-best-selling group in U.S.
history.
