Clark Rockefeller, who was accused of kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter throughout a supervised visit in Boston last Sunday, was taken into custody Saturday in Baltimore. Police said the girl was found safe.
According to Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, the authorities received a tip that the fugitive father was staying in a Baltimore apartment and had a 26-foot catamaran boat docked at a marina situated in close proximity.
The man was charged with felony custodial kidnapping, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Mr. Davis said. On Monday, Rockefeller is to be brought before the court and to begin extradition proceedings.
In order to make the suspect leave the apartment, investigators of the case gave the suspect a call, telling him that his sailboat was taking on water. As soon as he got out of the housing unit, he was arrested.
Initially, the authorities believed Rockefeller was attempting to flee to Bermuda or Peru on a yacht. But afterward they considered the man might have planted false clues in order not to be tracked.
The girl, Reigh Boss, was found inside the apartment. "Her first words were she was very happy to see very nice people ... she was ecstatic," asserted Noreen Gleason, FBI's assistant special agent in charge of the Boston division.
As stated by Mr. Davis, the inquiry was ongoing and police officers were still trying to find out Rockefeller's real identity and whether other persons were involved in the kidnap of the girl.
