Apple Silently Upgrades MobileMe
Apple told the media yesterday that is has applied a major update to MobileMe last month, outlining about 30 fixes to the problem-plagued online e-mail and sync service. Even so, users kept complaining about the MobileMe. Among the enhancements to MobileMe that were pointed out by Apple we find improved performance in Internet Explorer 7, improved performance when first logging into MobileMe Mail and improved calendar performance. Furthermore, Apple resolved an issue where some buttons were not fully displaying in Firefox 3.

MobileMe works with iPhone’s calendar, contacts and mail applications in addition to working with Mail, iCal and Address Book on the Macintosh, as well as Outlook on Windows. The subscription service costs $99 a year, including 20 GB of storage space that customers can use to wirelessly store photos, videos and other data.

MobileMe was launched in July as a revamp of Apple’s former online service, .Mac. Users were unsatisfied from the beginning and Apple apologized for the unfortunate debut a week later. In order to satisfy clients, Apple extended their subscription by 30 days and, afterwards, added another 60 days. Users complain now about disappearing e-mails and calendars that won’t load. All the problems were reported on an Apple support forum. Other problems fixed by Apple in September include Junk Mail Filtering and keyboard shortcuts not behaving as expected. Apple said it will continue to work on improving MobileMe, Steve jobs admitting that the service was probably launched too early. A complete list of changes for the latest MobileMe update is available from Apple’s Web site.
