Car Bomb Murders 17 in Syria

The capital of Syria was the victim of a car bomb which was carrying nearly 400 pounds of explosives. The car exploded on Saturday and killed over 17 people and Bassim Abdel Majid, the Interior Minister, blamed the “terrorists” for the attack. Still, he didn’t know any exact data about who carried out the explosives. He added that they couldn’t blame any party.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning in a neighborhood near the Sayida Zaineb. The explosion ripped the fronts out of the buildings and shattered the windows of the cars. The Sayida Zaineb shrine gathers Shiite pilgrims from the Sunni Muslim nation.

The buildings which were near the explosion also gather many Iraqi refugees. Most of them are unemployed, very poor and without any ID. Syria’s reports about the incident said that the car exploded near a security post of the state. But witnesses said that there was only a car used by the security services.
The reports also said that all the victims were civilians.

In February another car bombing killed Imad Mugniyeh, a security chief for Hezbollah. Last month, a Syrian general was shot, but Syria didn’t announce any arrests of investigations of the crimes. The identity of the murderers and the reasons of their killing remain unknown.

Still, Syria is known to have the most improved security system since Hafez al-Assad took the presidential chair. Although he died in 2000, his son Bashar al-Assad helped the system to become even stronger.
