Legendary singer Cher revealed she enjoyed a romantic affair with Tom Cruise and said she was “crazy about him,” Marie Claire reports. It appears the diva made the statement in a recording of the Oprah show, due to be aired next month. Cher mentioned that if she and Cruise had not been forced apart by work schedules, their relationship might have been a “great big romance”.

According to the singer, she met Tom Cruise at a White House fund-raising event in the eighties. She was 39 and had enjoyed nearly two decades of celebrity and success, while 23-year-old Tom’s star was in its ascendancy. Cher depicted him as a shy, young man, who fought to fit in at school.

“He was shy. He said he felt like such a boob in school and nobody talked to him,” the singer told Oprah quoted by Marie Claire. “It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him,” she added. As a spicy detail, Cher described one particularly “long night” spent in his arms.

It seems that Cruise and Cher dated for several months. The romance ended soon after he met Mimi Rogers, who became his first wife. Cruise separated from Rogers after three years and went on to marry Nicole Kidman in 1990. They were married for eleven years until 2001. He tied the knot for the third time with Katie Holmes in 2006.

Meanwhile, Cher has been married twice, previously to Sonny Bono and most recently to rock star Gregg Allman. The singer told Oprah she was currently single.
