R&B star Chris Brown may have lost support deals for Wrigley’s chewing gum and the Milk Moustache campaign after being arrested in the alleged attack on his fellow singer girlfriend Rihanna, but children’s network Nickelodeon is right behind him. In spite of the fact that the violent incident in which Chris Brown was involved stirred controversy and indignation among parents, who expressed their outrage in various blogs and entertainment Web sites, the musician is still in the run for the Kids’ Choice Awards. Many parents initiated and signed an online petition in order to have the 19-year-old artist removed from contention. Nevertheless, Chris Brown remains an important nominee for the event, which is scheduled to air on March 28 on Nickelodeon. “Like all our KCA nominees, Chris Brown was nominated by kids several months ago based on his work as a performer, and the kids who vote will ultimately decide who wins in the category,” Nickelodeon said in a statement, ABC News reported on its Web site. The show is addressed to kids aged between 6 and 14, who can vote until the program’s airdate. Moreover, this year’s vote is expected to surpass last year’s impressive 89 million result, the network’s publicist Marianne Romano said, according to the same source. Last week, Chris Brown appeared for the first time in court on charges of assaulting and making criminal threats against his girlfriend Rihanna. His arraignment was nonetheless postponed until April 6. The alleged domestic violence incident took place on February 8, after the famous couple left a pre-Grammy Awards party.
