An Oregon man’s home was robbed by almost all
his important possessions after a hoaxer had posted an ad on the popular
advertisements web site, Craigslist.org. The hoaxer impersonating the man
posted two ads on the web site in which he said that he had had to leave the
town suddenly and that he allowed any interested person to come and pick up his
stuff, including even his horse!
And it seems that people’s greed
is bigger than their rationality. Lots of men and women came with trucks and
cars to help themselves to the man’s stuff.
Robert Salisbury is an
independent contractor from Oregon.
On Saturday afternoon, while he was away from home, he was surprised to find
out that a woman wanted to pick up his abandoned horse, according to an ad the
woman claimed to have read on Craigslist.org. But the ad said that the animal
was in poor condition, which contrasted to the reality, and the woman decided
to call Salisbury.
Thus, the man found out about what it proved to be a hoax and hurried up home
to stop the daylight robbery.
Salisbury
eventually called the Jackson
County sheriff’s office,
although most of his stuff was already gone in some other people’s trucks. Jackson County Sgt. Colin Fagan asked the people that took
parts of Salisbury’s
stuff to give back everything they took or face prosecution.
Meanwhile, the police are trying
to identify the person that started everything: the hoaxer.
