Cynical Chicago Billboard Taken Down
A Chicago law firm went on a creative bent with a billboard proclaiming, “Life is short. Get a divorce,” which city officials were quick to take down.

Lawyers Corri Fetman’s and Kelly Garland found an interesting way to attract potential clients: a sexy image and a cynical (yet truthful) message. The billboard showed a man and a woman in little clothes and much flesh.

The message read, “Life is short. Get a divorce,” encouraging passersby that related to the billboard’s meaning to resort to Fetman and Garland’s legal services.

City officials have taken down the sign, reportedly because they want to host the 2016 Olympics. Other voices claim that the billboard found its demise due to technical reasons.

Chicago council member Burton Natarus told The Washington Post: “I called the building inspector and told him to do his job and he did. It has nothing to do with content or anything else. They did not have a permit and they were ordered to take it down.”

Fetman and Garland, who have been criticized by locals, neighbors and attorneys, are upset about the decision to remove their ad. “They ripped our billboard down without due process,” Fetman said. “We own that art. I feel violated.”

The week that the billboard was up seems to have been effective nevertheless, as the two layers said that they received a significant number of calls to their law firm. Business is good.
