On Tuesday (Earth Day), at the Fortune Brainstorm conference in Pasadena, California, Dell announced "the company's smallest and most environmentally-responsible consumer desktop PC."
This comes after the announcement made by the company on World Environment Day last year, when the idea of a partnership between Dell and ReGeneration was presented, plan that was supposed to help the first become the "greenest" technology company in the world.
According to Anne Camden, a Dell spokeswoman, the new comer is 81 percent smaller and uses up to 70 percent less energy than a typical desktop.
Although during the conference, details regarding configuration, brand name or pricing were not disclosed, it was said that everything would be made public in due time, later on this year, once the release date approaches. Obviously enough, there are some unofficial ideas about what the computer will bring, that are being tossed around on the Internet; thus, it may come with 1GB memory, a 80 GB laptop drive, wireless connectivity and a slot-in optical drive.
To further enforce the computer’s "green" appearance, its delivery will be made in recycled and recyclable packaging.
Dell, alongside Hewlett Packard, Reckitt Benckiser, Cadbury Schweppes, Imperial Tobacco, Nestle, Procter & Gamble, Tesco, L’Oreal, PepsiCo and Unilever, has joined the fight against global warming; as announced in January this year, the companies have embarqued on a plan set to monitor the amount of carbon emissions that their suppliers produce.
