Disney.com to Offer Free Movies

The Walt Disney Company said it would stream through the summer for the first time selected full-length movies on its Website. The project is a part of “Wonderful World of Disney” series on ABC. ABC is a part of Disney’s entertainment and news television properties.

“Finding Nemo” is now available for viewers through Friday, after the film’s airing Saturday on Disney-owned ABC. “Monsters, Inc.,” airs on NBC June 14 and will be available on the site June 16-20, “Haunted Mansion,” will be available online June 30-July 4, “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen,” is on TV July 5 and online July 7-11, “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement,” is on TV July 12 and online July 14-18, “Freaky Friday” is on TV July 19 and online July 21-25, and “Peter Pan” airs on TV August 2 and online August 4-8. The films will be shown for free, but will be ad-supported. The site also offers movie-related games and music in case the viewer needs a brake after sitting down and watching for an hour or more.

The decision to stream movies for free is a part of the company’s online strategy, but the “advertising strategy has not been finalized” for the films, a Disney spokesman was quoted as saying by Reuters. All movies air first on Disney-owned ABC’s “Wonderful World of Disney,” followed by Disney.com.
