The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce released today the names of 25 2009 honorees to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The officials analyze hundreds of annual submissions, the final awardees being ratified by the Board of Directors.

Among the stars’ stars are Robert Downey Jr., Cameron Diaz, Shakira, disco band The Village People and Tinkerbell. Unfortunately, Cheeta, the legendary chimp thespian who starred in movies like “Tarzan” and “Bedtime for Bonzo,” did not receive enough votes from the Committee and is not on the list. This was the animal actor’s seventh try to get a sidewalk star.

The full list of honorees is as follows:

MOTION PICTURES: Tinkerbell, Tim Burton, Leslie Caron, Cameron Diaz, Robert Downey, Jr., Charles Durning, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Jackman, Sir Ben Kingsley and William H. Macy.

TELEVISION: Mark Burnett, Felicity Huffman, Chuck Lorre, William Petersen, Kyra Sedgwick, and John Stamos.

RECORDING: Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds, Dave Koz, The Miracles, Doug Morris, RUSH, Shakira and The Village People.

RADIO: Bill Handel and Harry Shearer.

The Walk of Fame was designated as a Cultural and Historic Landmark by the City of Los Angeles in 1978 and is represented by a stretch of sidewalk lining on each side of Hollywood Boulevard where celebrities in music, movies, television and other entertainment arenas have their names emblazoned in large, pink stars.

The design of the inlaid stars include a round bronze emblem indicating the category for which the honoree received the star, although over the years there have been some design exceptions.

For celebrities, a star can be a memento that lasts for ages, millions of tourists who visit downtown Hollywood, annually, getting to see the names, talking about their favorite actors and actresses and taking pictures near the stars.
