The chicken that lays golden eggs for Electronic Arts, namely The Sims franchise, is close to having another “relative” coming to the family, namely The Simpsons.
The animated TV show created by Matt Groening that has made history at Fox Channel, and which is now getting its own big screen representation –due to come out on July 27- will now port its satirical comments on the Wii, the PS2 and the PS3, the DS and the PSP and finally, on the Xbox 360.
Electronic Arts offered the first preview of the upcoming game at a press event in San Francisco, along with 12 limited previews of other titles, all in the work at studios belonging to the Redwood City, CA-based entertainment behemoth.
According to Scott Amos, the real game’s executive producer, the plot is pretty simple: The Simpsons find out that they are going to be the subject of a new video game, without their consent or knowledge. Period. The gameplay evolves from there and from what I’ve seen on a trailer featured on gametrailers.com, it appears that the graphics is an interesting and odd combination of cartoon-style drawing and advanced physics, without losing anything from the original 2D looks of the series, but adding some nice 3D effects (like the Batmanish gliding of Bart or the dust that appears when the super-inflated Homer rolls over some restaurant tables).
Although The Simpsons’ commercial debut is set to coincide with the big screen version of the popular TV show, Amos told reporters that the video game is very different: "There's 8,000 lines of dialogue written just for the game" by the TV show's writers, he said.
"Our goal in developing The Simpsons Game is to create the most original game ever, which is a lofty goal and only possible given the close collaboration with The Simpsons' creative team," he later added.
"We're also especially proud of the game's warm visual feel, which captures - for the first time ever in a game - the look of the TV show. As Comic Book Guy says, 'Best. Simpsons Game. Ever!'"
