Elizabeth Berkley Will “Step It Up and Dance” on Bravo

Since dancing is one of her greatest passions, why shouldn’t she actually host a dancing show? Well, she does. Elizabeth Berkley is going to host the new Bravo unscripted series “Step It Up and Dance” which is going to premiere this Thursday. Nevertheless, Berkley will have to divide her time very well because in parallel with the show she will have a multi-episode arc on CBS hit “CSI: Miami.”

But she seems to be doing really good: “I’m doing right now what I love so much and what I’ve worked so hard to do. And so I’m really grateful,” Barkley said in a recent conference call with reporters.

“Step It Up and Dance” will gather 12 dancers from across the country, including Adriana from Shrewsbury, who will compete in order to get the $100,000 prize. The show produced by the same company behind Bravo’s “Project Runway” and “Top Chef,” Magical Elves, will present the competitors being eliminated one by one, by the judges, who will finally leave a sole winner. Eight shows out of ten were already taped within a month, leaving two more which might overlap with “CSI.”

Meanwhile, her role for the CBS series will be the one of Julia Winston, suspected in the murder of her billionaire husband. Julia is also the ex-wife of Horatio Caine and mother of his troubled son, Kyle. "It's really juicy, like ‘The Black Widow’ meets ‘Basic Instinct.’ I'm being investigated for murder. But Horatio and I have this intense past. There are still feelings there."

In a statement the former “Saved by the Bell” star said what her feelings about “Step It Up” are: “It’s about working hard, going after your dreams, and I think it’s going to be a great reminder for people of what it really, really takes. And reminding people that you may think you’re fabulous, but there are 10 other people who are just as fabulous.”

When Berkley was 12 she and her family moved from Paw Paw, Mich., to Los Angeles so she could pursue a career. Her first role was when she was 15 and she played Jessica in “Saved by the Bell.” “A lot of my friends out here are orphans because in the name of a dream, you make sacrifices, and I realize how lucky I am that I had that family support. My family supported me every step of the way, and I’m extremely close with all of my family,” the 33-year-old actress said.
