Ethan Hawke has married his girlfriend and former family
nanny, Ryan Shawhughes, the actor’s publicist confirmed on Thursday.
While Hawke’s ex-wife Uma Thurman got engaged last month, the
actor married his pregnant girlfriend in New York City, Mara Buxbaum said in an
e-mail to The Associated Press.
Buxbaum added that no further details were available.
In June, Hawke and Shawhughes were spotted applying for a
marriage licence at New York's Municipal Building.
Shawhughes used to be the nanny of the actor’s two girls
with Thurman, Maya Ray, 10, and Levon, 6. Uma Thurman married Ethan Hawke in
1998, after meeting him on the set of “Gattaca,” but she filed for divorce six
years later due to rumors of his infidelity. Still, Hawke insisted that his
relationship with Shawhughes started to develop only after the divorce from his
wife. Their child is expected to be a girl.
In 2006, after his divorce with Uma Thurman was finalized, Hawke
said that his children provided the greatest pleasure in his life.
“[Being a father] is the only role that, if I fail, I will
consider my life a failure,” he added.
Thurman, 38, is currently engaged to businessman Arpad
Busson, the ex of supermodel Elle Macpherson.
Hawke, 37, has received two Oscar nominations, one for
adapting the screenplay for “Before Sunset” and the other for his supporting
role in “Training Day.” His screen credits include “Great Expectations” and “Dead
Poets Society.”
