Nearly 170 people were evacuated on Sunday by rescue crews after waters got out of their bed and invaded Redland Dam, sending the water down to two canyons. The floods threatened tourists and residents. Hundred others weren’t yet evacuated as they were on high ground so they weren’t into so much danger on Sunday night.

Officials will decide on Monday if they will be evacuated or not. Also on Monday they will begin the search of 20 people who happened to be in the affected areas. The 20 people aren’t yet known their exact location.

Most of the people evacuated on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. were tourists and campers in the area. Nearly 400 other people remained in the threatened area as most of them are residents of Supai village, located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

The real problems and concerns started when the waters started to flood the Cataract Canyon and Supai Canyon too quickly. The rescue crews evacuated the people from five helicopters and the evacuated people were taken to a Red Cross shelter at Hualapai Tribal Gymnasium in Peach Springs.

Until now, the officials managed to account for most people in the area and the visitors are checked by the authorities. A boat carrying 16 people was in danger to collapse in the waters at the confluence of Havasu Creek and the Colorado River on Saturday night after flood began but no one was injured.
