Former NBA star Dennis Rodman was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion
of domestic violence against his girlfriend, police said Thursday.
The former husband of Carmen Electra, an eccentric basketball
star member of five NBA Championship winning teams during colorful stints with
the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls, was detained late Wednesday at a hotel
in Century City
near Beverly Hills,
the AFP reported.
Police officers answered to a report of domestic dispute. The
alleged victim suffered arm injuries, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman
Richard French said.
The couple drank too much, argued and Rodman grabbed the
woman’s arm, leaving a bruise, Rodman manager Darren Prince told TMZ.com, a celebrity
Web site.
The representative says, "Last night Dennis and his
girlfriend had too much to drink. When they returned to their hotel they
started arguing and a minor altercation broke out where Dennis grabbed her by
the arm and left a bruise.”
He was put under arrest at about 10:15 p.m. in Century City at a hotel in the 2100 block of
Avenue of the Stars. The 46-year-old NBA superstar was taken to the Van Nuys
jail at 2:50 a.m. today to be investigated on felony domestic dispute. The
basketball player was freed on $50,000 bail a few hours later.
"He's been really heartbroken about it and it hasn't
been a great time for him," Steve Simon was quoted by the Times as saying.
He added that the star had been struggling to recover after a recent divorce.
"I'm kind of waiting for the facts to unfold because
it's really uncharacteristic for him," Simon said.
TMZ.com reported that Rodman is planning on a stint in rehab
in Florida
following the incident.
Rodman has been at the center of disputes involving women in
nightclubs in recent years. He was also involved in an incident in which a
woman claimed he drugged and raped her.
The basketball star was married to Carmen Electra in the
late 1990’s.
