A press release announced on Thursday that Joe Torre has left The New York Yankees in order to be the new manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, agreeing to a three-year deal believed to be worth about $13 million. He will be the 26th manager in the Dodger’s 50 years history and the eight since they moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn. He comes to take the place of Grady Little, whose reason for resigning or being let away this week is unknown. Little, who is well known for being very honest, said that the split is a “mutual resignation” that is better for the organization. The change comes as a move to acquire veteran players, since Torre is an experienced manager at the age of 67. He has a history of 12 consecutive postseason appearances. The manager is recognized to have a great way with his players and with all of those he works with every day. Dodgers seem to have changed their procedure in hiring managers. If years ago the managers were from inside the Dodgers organization and without Major League managerial experience, now they seem to value more the experience of the potential managers. Torre does not have any history in the Dodgers organization, but he is known as a successful manager at the Yankees, with whom he won four World Series, as the Dodgers want to head to the postseason next year.
