FDA States the Chemical Used in Plastic Bottles is Safe
The Food and Drug Administration announced on Friday that they will hold a public meeting about the chemical found in baby bottles and other products. The meeting will be held next month and the environmental groups say that the chemical, known as bisphenol A, could hurt little children and animals.

Still, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration say that, according to plastics industry, this chemical is safe. The National Toxicology Program, part of National Institutes of Health has made a report in which they expressed their concern that the chemical could cause great problems.

The FDA meeting on September 16 will be all about telling and proving that bisphenol A is safe and there is no need for concern. Public will be allowed to attend it.

The bisphenol A, commonly known as BPA, is used in polycarbonate bottles as water bottles and baby bottles. The environmental groups have tried to show that the chemical could interfere with the body absorbing the hormone estrogen, which has the main role in the development of young bodies.

Other problems state that the chemical’s safety is needed because there is not enough information if people aren’t taking it in unsafe levels. Agencies also want to know what those unsafe levels are.

U.S. senators introduced a ban to BPA in children’s products in April and Canada is now preparing to do the same.
