Free Open Source Unlock for iPhone Released by Hacker Group

While others want to make some money (lots of money in fact) from unlocking Apple Inc.’s ultimate gadget, the iPhone, a hacker group seems to be very altruistic about it and has released free open source software for unlocking the smart phone. The hackers group is called the iPhone Dev Team and it is represented by a dozen of programmers who have started since July their attempts to break the mobile phone’s reliance on AT&T network. And it seems that they have eventually succeeded in finding the solution in cracking the iPhone and that they are also willing to share it with others for free.

The iPhone Dev Team has posted their hack on several download servers just one day after a commercial company has also released an iPhone unlock hack but asking this time for money for the solution. However, it appears that both the iPhone Dev Team and the iPhoneSIMFree’s hacks are exploiting the same bug for unlocking the iPhone. It has been just pure coincidence that the two teams have come up with theoretically the some solution independently one of another.

However, if one wants to spare $100 and get the iPhone Dev Team’s hack, one should also know that “This unlock is not for everybody!”, as the iPhone Dev Team itself has warned. This is because the iPhone’s user will need several separate programs and will be also required to execute commands from a shell screen on the PC or Mac. Still, the reports from the hackers group’s web site have showed that many people have already succeeded with the procedure.

However, it is very likely that Apple would re-lock its smart phone sometime during this month already! So, if you own an iPhone at least don’t throw away $100 for a hack solution!
