Fusion Man Flies Over the Alps
Fusion Man Flies Over the Alps

On Wednesday, the first ever flight over the Alps performed by using a homemade flying device was recorded. The man responsible for this was Swiss pilot and adventurer, Yves Rossy, also know as Fusion Man. After having reached the altitude of 7,500 feet, he jumped out of the plane and with the help of his jet-powered wings, managed to reach a flight speed of 186 miles per hour.

In addition to the flight itself, which would have been more than enough, in an attempt to "impress the girls," as he joked afterwards, the pilot also performed several dives and figure eights and topped everything off with a 360-degree barrel roll. He then landed at an airfield near Lake Geneva.

This week’s flight was actually just a test, coming after five years of training. As it was carried out flawlessly, the pilot now has even more spectacular plans for the near future. By the end of the year, he wants to cross the English Channel and eventually fly over the Grand Canyon.

Although the technology required a massive investment, hopes to commercialize it and turn the project into a profitable business are quite low, for now at least. This was still a great success, but for market realease, the wings should be made easier to use and production costs lowered.
