The sixth season of “Dancing With
the Stars” was announced during the finale of “Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie
Ann.” The celebrity cast was announced by three former contestants of the
second season of “Dancing with the Stars”: tenth place finisher Kenny Mayne, fourth-place
finisher Lisa Rinna, and runner-up Jerry Rice. The show will begin on March 17, with
a 2-hour-episode, ABC announced Monday night.
Oscar-winning actress Marlee
Matlin and magician Penn Jillette were among the dozen of stars participating
at the famous dance contest. Radio Jockey Adam Carolla, will dance with
Julianne Hough.
Other contenders are: Kristi
Yamaguchi, the famous tennis player Monica Seles, R&B singer Mario, “3 Men
and A Baby” actor Steve Guttenberg, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor,
actress Shannon Elizabeth, starring in “American Pie” and Priscilla
Presley.
Television actors Christian de la
Fuente and Tony winner Marissa Jaret Winokur will also compete.
Eleven of the 12 professional
dancers are known to the show viewers: two-time defending champ Julianne Hough,
two-time champion Cheryl Burke; Derek Hough, Anna Trebunskaya, Karina Smirnoff,
Kym Johnson, Louis van Amstel; Jonathan Roberts, Edyta Sliwinska, Tony Dovolani
and Mark Ballas.
According to E! News, former
second-place winner Maksim Chmerkovskiy will not attend this season of “Dancing
with the Stars.” But he will compete the next season.
“It's one of those things I need
to attend to. My domestic studios and my students-their competitive careers.
They [the producers] were kind enough to give me a break, and let me do it,”
Chmerkovskiy said.
He will be replaced by the
newcomer Fabian Sanchez, who will join Marlee Matlin.
