SV Hamburg are expected to announce the signing of a second Brazilian within two days with the expected transfer of playmaker Thiago Neves to the Bundesliga club, local media reports said Thursday.
It would take Hamburg's spending on new players to close to 27 million euros (40 million dollars) after the club Wednesday sealed the transfers of left-back Marcell Jansen from Bayern Munich and central defender Alex Silva from Sao Paulo.
Earlier this month Hamburg signed Croatia striker Mladen Petric from Borussia Dortmund.
Germany defender Jansen is to be officially presented as a Hamburg player later Thursday and could make his debut on Saturday against Arminia Bielefeld.
According to the Bild and Hamburger Abendblatt dailies, Hamburg are paying Rio club Fluminense 7.5 million euros for Thiago Neves, 23, a bronze medallist with Brazil at the Beijing Olympics.
Jansen, 22, who played for Germany at both the 2006 World Cup and the recent European Championships, is costing a reported 8 millionn euros.
A fee of 6.2 million euros has been agreed for Silva, 23, who was also a member of the Brazil Olympic team.
Petric meanwhile cost 4.2 million euros in part exchange for Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan.
Hamburg, however, have earned money from the sales of midfielder Rafael van der Vaart to Real Madrid for around 16 million euros and defender Vincent Kompany to Manchester City for a reported 8 million euros.
The transfer of Jansen, who leaves Bayern after only one season in a move, has come as a surprise.
But club sports director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said Hamburg had been interested in Jansen for a long time.
"We had been following him closely even before he moved to Bayern Munich," he said.
"He is a flexible player on the left side and we expect him to liven up our game down the flanks," he said.
Jansen told the club's website: "I see this as a big chance for me and I am sure I can further develop my game at Hamburg. The team is young and hungry for success, and has a great deal of potential. It's something I again saw two weeks ago in Munich (in a 2-2 draw)."
Jansen, Silva and Thiago Neves - if the deal is confirmed - join the club on five-year contracts.
Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffman said the club was continuing its policy of signing ambitious players with promising futures.
Jansen joined Bayern from Borussia Moenchengladbach but played only 17 games in a position also filled by Germany international Philipp Lahm.
Although Lahm has often switched to right back, Bayern coach Juergen Klinsmann has preferred Lahm in the left-back position this season, leaving Jansen out of the side.
Silva meanwhile will join the club on September 12 after being named in the Brazil squad for World Cup qualification matches against Chile on September 8 and Bolivia on September 11.
