On July 17, the body of an 18-year old Latina transgender was found in her apartment situated in Greeley, Colorado. It seems that anti-transgender motive lead to committing the atrocious crime. The victim was identified as Angie Zapata. Police believe that the perpetrator has stolen Angie's sister's car, a dark forest green 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser with the Colorado license plate number 441ORN. A hubcap is missing on the front passenger-side tire, as well as a paint missing on the front bumper on the driver-side. People having information regarding the car are asked to call the Greeley police through the communications center, 970-350-9600. Angie’s sister Monica said she wanted to involve the entire community to trace the culprit who had brutally murdered Angie and “to let everyone be aware that all she wanted was to be beautiful.” She wants this violence to be brought to an end. “Transgender people deserve to be treated with respect," added her. In line with MyFOX Colorado, the friends of the victim said the teen was actually a man, named Justin David Zapata, who was living as a woman calling herself Angie. Kelly Costello of the Colorado Anti-Violence Program said that Angie’s identity “should be factored in very seriously into the investigation." On Wednesday, friends remembered Zapata as a devoted friend who didn't care about what the others said regarding her being a transgender woman. Her looks meant everything to Angie Zapata. "She was beautiful and she wanted people to accept her for who she was,” Portillo told MyFOX Colorado.
