The Hollywood premiere of “Horton Hears a Who!” that took
place on March 8th, ended up
with a group of protesters, chanting anti-abortion slogans while invading the
screening. Even though the room was mostly filled with children, the
pro-lifers seemed not to care and continued with their program.
Victoria Beckham and her three children, along with Jim
Carrey, Jenny McCarthy, Steve Carrell and also the 12 contestants from the “American
Idol” show, were present at the premiere and, as a result, at the unexpected
protest. However, the people that went there to see an innocent and charming
kids movie, responded immediately by screaming “This is a kid’s premiere, how
dare you?” and also “Do you really care that much?”
The protesters associated the movie’s motto “After all, a
person is a person, no matter how small,” with their cause. After they stopped
chanting, the pro-lifers put a red tape over their mouth that said “Life” on
them, and started to walk across the room in order to expose it.
The film “Horton Hears a Who!” is based on Dr. Seuss’ book.
The book featuring Horton the Elephant appeared in 1954 following “Horton
Hatches the Egg.” The book as well as the movie reveals the story about a shy
elephant called Horton, who while finding himself in the Jungle of Nool on May
15, hears a small speck of dust talking to him and finds out that the speck of
dust is actually a tiny planet which hosts the city called “Who-ville.” The
inhabitants of the city have microscopic sizes and are called Whos.
In the movie, actor Jim Carrey voices the main character, Horton,
while Steve Carrell is the voice of the Mayor, Carol Burnett the voice of
Kangaroo and moreover many other actors give life to the characters that
surround the pure-hearted elephant.
