How Much Do Cell Phones Harm Children?
How Much Do Cell Phones Harm Children?

Are cell phones bad for our health?

That is a question that preoccupies people since the invention of the cell phones. However, specialists have lately conducted a study centralized on the peril cell phones represented for unborn children.

The study took into consideration more than 13,000 children whose mothers used cell phones at least two or three times a day while pregnant. It seems that, by the time of school age, these children had some common behavioral problems, regarding their conduct, emotions and relationships.

Additionally, the Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection advised pregnant women and children to limit their cell phone use. The risk for children to suffer from certain abnormalities is bigger than for adults. According to this Institute, children can present symptoms like "disruption of memory, decline of attention, diminishing learning and cognitive abilities, increased irritability" for short term and "depressive syndrome" "degeneration of the nervous structures of the brain" for long term.

However, there are voices that do not take into consideration this research and consider it as being misinterpreted, by saying that the low prevalence of cell phones in the late 90s cannot strongly sustain the conclusions of the research. They also bring into discussion the fact that the radiation peril caused by the mobile phones cannot be more dangerous than tobacco or alcohol.

This research organized by the Universities of California, Los Angeles and Aarhus, Denmark will be published in July, in the Epidemiology journal.
