International AIDS Conference Opens In Mexico City On Sunday
One day before the 17th International AIDS conference, thousands of people worldwide marched through streets in the capital of Mexico on all for the fight against homophobia and discrimination against people infected with HIV.

The mass of protestors taking to the streets was part of the demonstration. With the aim of pointing up their message for humanity, a number of marchers laid on the ground as if they took their last breath, holding banners that read "Sexism kills". Other protestors showed their support towards gay people by clothing in garish rainbow colors.

AP Television recording showed demonstrators holding placards whose message encouraged people to employ condoms. One banner had the slogan "Love others as you love yourself."

Jose Angel Cordova, Mexico's Secretary of Health, as well as the head of the Mexico City Human Rights Commission Emilio Alvarez, took the streets together with the mass of protestors requiring acceptance of people with different sexual orientation.

The International AIDS conference opened in Mexico City today, 3 August.

An estimated 25,000 delegates are expected to attend it. United Nations Secretary, General Ban-Ki Moon, former United States President, Bill Clinton, as well as singer Annie Lennox count among them.

AIDS has now become a pandemic. A new study released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that an estimated 56,300 people in the U.S. are infected each year with AIDS virus.
