Photos with a transgender man who appears to be pregnant
were posted on The Advocate’s Web site, a magazine that fights for the gay
rights.
Tracy Lagondino was born a woman but she went through a sex
change, having chest reconstruction and taking testosterone to develop
masculine traits. She kept her ovaries and uterus. This was the way Tracy
Lagondino became Thomas Beatie. The new Beatie said she was able to get pregnant
using artificial insemination. Even if she looks like a man her specific female
organs helped her/him to become pregnant.
Thomas Beatie and his wife Nancy have to wait four months to
see their baby born.
Doctors say pregnancy for transgender persons has its own
risks, especially if the patient had taken testosterone before the pregnancy or
later on. This can cause male-type characteristics in the female body, said Cedars-Sinclair Medical Center
obstetrician Dr. Lisa Masterson on “Good Morning America.”
"To Nancy,
I am her husband carrying our child," Thomas wrote, explaining that his
wife is unable to conceive, ABC News reports. "I will be my daughter's
father, and Nancy
will be her mother. We will be a family." Beatie also labeled as
“incredible” the experience of carrying a baby for his wife.
They have to face some questions and some opinions of people
that fell offended by their decision.
One may ask what would be the psychological consequences of
this unnatural birth. It would be difficult for a baby whose father was a woman
to realize his/hers true identity. How about Freudian Theory?
