Israeli jet fighters bombed again facilities belonging to the Hamas military wing, continuing the campaign began Thursday in response to the heavy rocket fire launched by the militants towards Israel.
Five people were killed after F-16 warplanes attacked a building that was used by Hamas as meeting point. One of the dead people was a civilian that was passing by the building when the air strike was launched.
Meanwhile, the militants fired a new round of Qassam rockets at southern Israel, but no deaths or severe injuries were reported. Most of the rockets launched at Israel targeted the town of Sderot, many buildings across the city being destroyed, as thousands of civilians were evacuated.
Ehud Olmert’s government accused Hamas of trying to defuse their conflict with Fatah by directing the wrath of the militants towards Israel. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas found a strong ally in Israel, as the country officially categorized the Hamas movement as an terrorist organization.
Along with Israel, many other countries showed their support for the Palestinian political party and organization. President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair pledged Thursday their nations will continue the fight against terrorism and also expressed concern about the rising violence in the Strip.
