Jack Johnson’s “Sleep Through the Static” managed to stay on
Billboard’s 200 No. 1 spot for the third week in a row. According to Nielsen SoundScan 105,000
copies were sold this week. Moreover, in the second week SoundScan registered
180,000 copies of the album sold, while in the first week almost 375,000 copies
were sold reaching 2008’s first sales record.
The singer released his successful album on Feb 5th
via Brushfire Records. According to E! News Johnson’s “Sleep Through the Static”
has the same achievement as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller: 25th Anniversary
Edition” that was No. 1 on the Top Pop Catalog chart.
Even though artists like Amy Winehouse and Herbie Hancock
ended victorious at the Grammy Awards Ceremony that took place on February, 10
in Los Angeles,
Jack Johnson’s album managed to stay in front of them and on the first place in
this week’s Billboard 200.
He was followed by Alicia Keys who managed to sell almost
53,000 copies of her “As I Am” album, and by Amy Winehouse who also sold 52,000 copies of her album “Back to Black.”
According to MTV News this week’s highest-charting debut, “Kidz
Bop 13,” has taken the No. 4 spot. This album contains features of Fergie with her
hit “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” also Alicia Keys’
“No One” and many others.
Next, on No. 5 with almost 42,000 copies sold comes “Step It
Up 2: The Streets,” followed by “Juno’s” soundtrack that sold more or less than
38,000. No. 10 is occupied by Taylor Swift’s self-titled debut that sold nearly 33,500 copies.
