Kanye West Wins the Prize for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist at BET Awards

Kanye West was nominated for three awards at this year’s Black Entertainment TV (BET) awards and he won the prize for Best Male Hip-Hop artist and best collaboration for Good Life featuring T-Pain. Hip-hop group UGK was named best group and also won video of the year for “International Player’s Anthem (I Choose You)” featuring Outkast.

“This is hard for me to accept tonight. We did an incredible job, I feel, but it’s hard to do Bun B, the surviving member of Houston rap duo UKG said.

Alicia Keys, the only female winner of the night, was named Best Female R&B Artist. “I just wanna say that we are so incredible, we are such an incredible people,” Alicia Keys said after receiving the award. “We are so beautiful and fly, and everybody wants to be like us...I mostly want to thank all of you that are watching and standing here right now. Without you...I really really appreciate you very much,” she thanked to her fans. She used to occasion to salute presidential contender Barack Obama, who would be the first African-American elected to the nation’s highest office.

Chris Brown won the prize for Best Male R&B Artist. The prize for best female hip-hop performer went to Missy Elliott and The Dream was named best new artist. Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Halle Berry took the best actress awards.
