Two-time Academy Award-winning American film actor and director Kevin Costner is the father of a newborn child with his second wife, Christine. Cayden Wyatt Costner was born at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at a Los Angeles area hospital, according to Costner's publicist, Paul Bloch. The baby boy weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

"Both mother and son are doing well," Bloch said, adding only that the baby has dark hair. The baby is Kevin's fifth child.

Costner has three children from an earlier marriage to childhood sweetheart Cindy Silva and a fourth from a relationship with Bridget Rooney. He and Christine Baumgartner, 33, a handbag designer, married in 2004. Costner is 52.

Kevin Michael Costner has Irish, German, and Cherokee ancestry and was born into a poor family in Lynwood, California. He made his film debut in the 1974 film Sizzle Beach, U.S.A. at age 19, although the film was not released until 1986.

Costner's most popular success was the epic Dances with Wolves (1990). He directed and starred in the film and served as one of the producers. The film was nominated for twelve Academy Awards and won seven, including two for him personally (Best Picture and Best Director), his only Academy Awards.
