LaKisha Jones came a long way on “American Idol,” surviving for a full eight weeks. She has been sent home now; three brave contestants continue the competition.
Wednesday night was goodbye night for 27-year-old LaKisha Jones. She may have gotten her hopes up after last week’s non-characteristic appreciation from Simon Cowell (which included a kiss), but she didn’t stand a chance yesterday.
This week former BeeGees member Barry Gibb was guest and mentor. LaKisha’s rendition of “Stayin’ Alive” and “Run To Me” did nothing to impress the three judges. Randy Jackson commented her performance was weird, while Paula said it “lacked energy.”
Simon’s remark was quirt brutal, as he told LaKisha “No kiss tonight, baby.”
The Idol wannabe had been nervous before being told the result and she became emotional when she learned she had been eliminated.
Three more hopeful contestants remain. Blake Lewis, 25, whose performance Cowell declared “absolutely terrible”; Jordin Sparks, 17, the youngest performer left in the competition; and Melinda Doolittle, 29, a professional back-up singer.
My guess: Blake leaves next. Then the public will have to decide between the young and inexperienced Jordin, raw talent if you may, and Melinda, a favorite for some but criticized by others for participating in a show that is meant for ‘inexpert’ singers.
