MTV went on with its annual movie awards at the Universal Studios lot on Sunday, just a few hours after a huge fire devastated chunks of Hollywood history nearby, Reuters reports. The host of the 17th annual MTV Movie Awards was Mike Myers.

“Transformers” is the winner of best movie at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, and director Michael Bay said he would start shooting a sequel to the hit action.

Top stars such as Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Will Ferrell and Robert Downey Jr. attended the event.

Will Smith earned best male performer for “I Am Legend” and Ellen Page from “Juno” won the counterpart trophy for actresses.

Johnny Depp took home two trophies, such as best comedic performance for his role as Captain Jack in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and best villain for “Sweeney Todd.” Adam Sandler won a career achievement award.

Zac Efron won for his breakthrough performance in “Hairspray.”

A new category this year was “best summer movie so far” and the award went to Robert Downey Jr’s superhero smash “Iron Man.” The actor accepted the statuette with his director, Jon Favreau.

The category Best Kiss was won by Rainn Wilson and Megan Fox, while Best Fight was awarded to Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet.

The 2008 MTV Movie Awards can be seen on MTV One on Monday June 2 at 9pm and Tuesday June 3 at 7pm.
