A bride, a groom and two other people were wounded in a
shooting at a creekside wedding in rural Pope County,
the Associated Press reports. The stranger who shot them was arrested after
being chased by outraged guests, a sheriff’s official said Sunday.
The shooting happened at Piney Creek on Rushing Road, just north of Dover.
According to Pope
County sheriff's Lt.
Aaron DuVall, the wedding was just ending when the suspect approached with a
gun and opened fire. Nearly 50 people attended the event.
The shooter “was not associated with the wedding at all” and
“no one knew him,” DuVall said, quoted by the A.P. He was identified as Patrick
Paul Duvall from Pope
County.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what
happened in the minutes leading up to the shooting. They do not know what
caused the violence, or why DuVall was at the creek.
DuVall declined to identify the four people who were wounded,
but he mentioned the bride, groom and a third victim remained in the hospital
Sunday. One victim was treated and released.
Patrick Duvall is charged with four counts of battery. He will
appear in court for a bond hearing Wednesday morning.
