Manchester United made it to the Champions League final, as Paul Scholes scored the goal of his life after he had missed Sir Alex Ferguson’s team’s victory over Bayern Munchen in the 1999 final because he was suspended. Scholes made up for all his sins on Tuesday with a sublime long- strike, leading his team to a 1-0 triumph over Barcelona on the Old Trafford. The goal came in the 14th minute, sealing an all- British final in Moscow next month. Even if critics say that Scholes can’t keep up with young players and can’t score like he used to do when he was younger, his experience allowed him to score the fantastic goal in the Champions League semifinals. Frank Rijkaard's troubled team has not scored for four games and even if they dominated the possession, Barcelona missed the strength of the attack. They failed to transform long periods of domination in terms of territory and possession into clear chances of a goal. Oppositely, Manchester successfully faced the Spanish team, managing to balance the absence of Nemanja Vidic and Wayne Rooney with its maturity and experience. United created more clear chances with less possession than the visitors. In the final, Sir Alex Ferguson's squad will face either Chelsea or Liverpool, who will complete the other semi-final in London on Wednesday evening. That tie is finely poised at 1-1 after the first leg. Barcelona’s Frank Rijkaard ironically said that the English teams lack the sense of adventure and originality, but Ferguson did not bite and made no comments on this accusation.
