Britney Spears still succeeds in surprising us. Apparently,
the 26-year-old pop singer had an exquisite Saturday. People Magazine reports
that after spending the morning with her two sons, Preston and Jayden, Spears
met for dinner with Oscar-winning director, actor and producer, Mel Gibson, at
a Russian restaurant in Studio
City called Romanov.
During their two-hour stay in the restaurant, the two
celebrities dined on filet mignon and Russian specialties and drank water and
soft drinks. According to People, a restaurant source said: “It was exciting to
have both of them here together. We heard they hit it off and that Britney seemed
excited.”
Furthermore, the troubled singer arrived at Romanov with her
friend Victoria, while Gibson was there with a few of his friends. The two groups
gathered in the restaurant’s private dining room, which has a 24-karat gold
leaf ceiling, an ornate fireplace and a library containing works such as
Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.”
So, what was the reason of their meeting? Well, it is
uncertain. Some speculate that Gibson and Spears discussed about a possible collaboration.
However, an industry insider tells OK! Magazine that “It’s unlikely that they
were talking about working together on anything specific, although Mel has used
a lot of inexperienced actors in his last two films,” the source explains.
Moreover, the insider strongly believes that the meeting
took place in order for Gibson to share with Spears some of his previous
experiences with the negative press. As a result, the source thinks that Mel
wanted to give Britney a piece of advice. “He understands what she’s going
through, and he certainly has advice on how to not let it destroy your life.”
This may actually be true considering the fact that in 2006,
Mel Gibson, revealed that “I feel compassion for someone like Britney,” adding
that “She never gets a moment…Your heart goes out to her because I’m positive
that, at her core, she’s a good woman.” Gibson genuinely understands Spears’
feelings because he was also arrested for DUI in 2006, when he went on an anti-Semitic rant which generated massive negative press coverage.
But no matter what their discussion was about, Britney was seen leaving the restaurant at about 8:15 p.m. looking very "happy" according to an observer.
