A research firm announced that Microsoft Corporation’s Xbox 360 sold much more games that the rival companies Nintendo and Sony in Japan last week. This has been the first Xbox 360’s top place in five months. The video games operations from Microsoft have worked very hard in Japan, where Nintendo Co Ltd and Sony Corp have their home.
Regarding the weekly sales, Xbox 360 has rarely been in front of Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Play Station 3. Yet, the week which ended on February 22 changed the tradition thanks to the blockbuster role-playing game series of Square Enix Holdings, “Star Ocean.”
Several analysts have advised Microsoft Corporation to toughen its lineup of role-playing game titles as to satisfy the Japanese video games’ tastes. The statistics showed that the role-playing games have a lot of success in Japan, while the action and sports ones are very successful in the United States and Europe.
According to Ascii Media Works’ reports from Thursday, Microsoft sold 21,013 units of the Xbox 360 last week, while Nintendo managed to sell only 16,900 of its Nintendo game. Not even Sony’s Play Station 3 could beat up Xbox 360 as Sony sold only 15,967 copies of the game.
Square Enix Holdings’ “Star Ocean: The Last Hope” was specially built to be played on Xbox 360 and thanks to it, Microsoft sold so many copies of the game console. The game went on sale in Japan on February 19 and sold an average of 173,850 copies until February 22. Thus, it became the top-selling game software last week in all the country.
The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, while the Electronic Entertainment Expo provided all the details about it. The console sold out at the release in the entire world, expect Japan. But with “Star Ocean,” the Xbox 360 gained success all over the world.
