Miracles happen under the big city, too.
A kitten that has been lost for 25 days was finally found
safe and sound (more or less). The cat,
whose name is Georgia,
escaped from her carrier and ran off the subway platform and has wandered
through the New York
underground subway for almost four weeks.
Georgia and her owner Bronx
librarian Ashley Phillips, 24, were returning home after a visit at the vet
when the cat made her insensible escape. Philips was extremely worried and
after all those days of search, felt almost hopeless. “I couldn't grab her fast
enough and she jumped onto the tracks,” she said.
Ms Philips and transit workers looked for Georgia on the
first day for two hours and then abandoned. However, a cat seems not only to
have nine lives, but also ineffable luck: Georgia was discovered after almost
a month.
Transit workers initiated another “mission: impossible” to find the missing cat
after hearing that somebody caught a glimpse of the six-month feline below
Lexington Avenue and East 55th Street. Track workers Mark Dalessio and Efrain
LaPorte wandered in the area making “meow” sounds and Georgia responded.
The kitten was discovered hidden in a drain between two
tracks. She looked scared, and had her nose scratched. Also, she lost some
considerable weight but she will be able to return to her warm, fuzzy life and
gain the weight back.
