Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Wednesday said he was committed to a speedy conclusion of stalled unity talks between his Zanu-PF party and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

'Speaking for Zanu-PF and myself we are committed and want to see the speedy and successful conclusion of the talks so that we can focus on the turnaround of our economy,' Mugabe told a press conference given by Reserve Bank governor Gideon Gono.

Gono announced the bank was stripping ten zeroes off the battered Zimbabwe dollar.

Mugabe's remarks came ahead of a meeting later in Harare with South African President Thabo Mbeki to discuss the two-day-old suspension of talks on the formation of a unity government.
