It appears that supermodel Naomi Campbell will show her “ugly”
side in ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” the Associated Press reports. A representative for
ABC confirmed Wednesday that Naomi would play herself in the second season
finale.
“She's going to be in our last episode, which is exciting,” actress
Becki Newton told the AP at the launch party for the new Sunglass Hut store
design. “I've personally requested that I don't stand next to her because
Amanda would not like to be seen with such a tall, pretty person,” she added.
The 37-year-old model was due to appear as a guest star last
year but for reasons unknown, that casting coup never materialized. She was again
tapped to appear earlier this year, but the writer’s strike derailed those
plans.
On April 3, 2008, Naomi Campbell was arrested inside
Heathrow’s Terminal 5, after boarding a British Airways flight where one of her
bags got lost. According to a later police statement, the supermodel was held
on suspicion of assaulting a policeman. The Sun reported that Naomi was screaming
“Get off me, leave me alone,” and then she spit one of the officers.
Campbell
had several problems with the law. In 2000 in Toronto,
she pleaded guilty to an assault charge for beating an assistant with a cell
phone while making a movie. In 2004, her house cleaner accused Naomi that she
slapped her across the face and in 2007, the model pleaded guilty in New
York City to a misdemeanor
assault for throwing her mobile phone at her maid in a conflict over a missing
pair of jeans. Campbell
was ordered to do community service and attend an anger-management program.
