Even if doctors are still trying to determine the cause of the death of Esmin Green, her case remains a symbol of a health-care system that has failed. Green was received and admitted at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn on June 18 and on June 19 she died in the waiting room in front of the psychiatric room. She waited for almost 24 hours for someone to see her, but she had a stroke and died. What seemed to be the most horrible thing was that some staff members of the hospital saw her lying on the floor face-down and failed in offering any kind of help. In addition to it, the woman’s medical report was falsified, showing that she was sitting quietly when she was dying on the floor. According to CNN, seven people from Kings County were fired after the incident, but the story has destroyed the souls of Green’s family and friends. Esmin Green left six children back in Jamaica, the youngest being 14 now. Her 31-year-old daughter, Tecia Harrison said that she hasn't seen the tape where her mother was dying, being terrified of only hearing about it. Fellow members of her church called her “Sister Green” and they served together as a family for her. In May 2007, the New York Civil Liberties Union and Mental Hygiene Legal Service sued Kings County in federal court for the filthy conditions they use for their patients. The lawsuit claims that they drug patients to keep them docile and abuse them. After serious investigations it seems that the lack of space and doctors available for every patient requiring medical care has reached a big number all over the world. The officials from health care are now handling the issue, hoping for finding a solution.
