New PS3 Firmware Update Coming for DVD Upscaling
New PS3 Firmware Update Coming for DVD Upscaling
Sony officially announced firmware update 1.80 for PlayStation 3, which will only be unleashed in Europe on May 24.

Among the most important updates included in the firmware upgrade is the upscaling of old DVDs, PS1 and PS2 games to full 1080p. That means that content stored on your old DVDs, or your old PS1 and PS2 games can be converted to HD resolutions, further enhancing the graphics and improving the gameplay. However, as Sony announced, DVD movies can only be upconverted using an HDMI connection.

The 1.80 version of firmware also brings new stuff to the PSP. It apparently corrects a glitch from the previous PS3 firmware update that hindered PSP owners from fully enjoying PSP Remote Play via Internet. Sony also requires PSP owners to upgrade their beloved handheld to firmware 3.50 in order to be able to watch and listen content stored on the PS3’s hard drive from any wi-fi connection in the world.

There is also an update concerning DLNA-enabled PCs and laptops, whose media content will be available for preview on PS3 computer entertainment systems.

Also, images stored on the PS3’s hard drive can be printed using compatible printers, like Epson.

As mentioned earlier, 1.80 will only hit the Euro-PS3s, but the rest of the world will also get the update in less than a week after the European release.
